I was introduced to this brilliant site recently. If you’re looking for some way to financially assist the poor but don’t want to just give a hand-out or create dependency, this is a great option. You can loan directly to men and women in empoverished countries who are looking to start their own businesses or expand existing ones. Kiva partners with lenders on the ground who already have a working loan program but are short on funds. As a loaner, you get updates on the business status and nearly always you will be paid back the full amount you loan. Check it out!
Hi, I was searching for Christians in Thailand, and came upon your blog. I hope you are enjoying your time back in the States. ![]()
I have a friend who lives in NongKhai and has a website that does many things to benefit the Thais, as well as Nepalese. It’s called http://www.isara.org
Basically, you use isara as your homepage to do searches and 100% of the revenue generated by your searches goes to help Thais. I strongly suggest reading the ‘about’ page. Although as a nonprofit, the website doesn’t subscribe to a strictly Christian doctrine, as a follower of Christ, I believe we are to help our neighbors, whether that neighbor lives next door to me in the southern United States, or half way around the world. And helping for free?! That’s awesome!
Meanwhile, I’m going to check out Kiva now. ![]()
Hey Sara,
Hope your time at home is going well. Hopefully Urbana was good and your teaching/presentation time was fruitful. It was interesting to hear of your reaclimation with the US after being gone so long. You are still in our thoughts and prayers.
Amanda and I are doing well, she is going to get certified to teach! I keep some recent pics of us on my blog, check it out sometime.
It’s dereklehr.blogspot.com

Hi Sarah - The interconnects of those who are called by His name just keep extending. I ran into one of the loans at Kiva.org that you had subscribed to and mentioned it to Jenn. Then I thought I would catch up on her blog which had a comment from you with your old blog link. Your old blog referred me here and lo and behold, your posting is about Kiva.org who are doing an excellent job of putting money where our mouths (sometimes) are, consciousness raising with a payoff.
We have tried to keep up with your work and are glad you have had a chance to be home and at Urbana. Your support base is broader than you imagine!

I’ve been enjoying your mussings. . .can’t think of anything witty or funny to comment about them, but just wanted to pass on that I am enjoying the cultural differences.
